Interactive Bed of the Future – This will be in the hotel or resort places. The bed  would automatically know your favorite music, your travel schedule and your television preferences.

I think this is interesting if you travel overseas and stay in the hotel. But I would prefer to see something new in music and television preferences when I’m overseas.

Comfort Sphere – This is used especially during exhibition and trade fairs. It gives a space for individual experiences, for taking in information and for entertainment.

I love to sit on it when I got the chance. Even though it is anti-social, I really enjoy sitting in that chair and feel the “world” around me.

Virtual Piano – You can play keyboard at any surface.

As someone who plays the keyboard, I will find it that it is easy to carry it around as the instruments is very heavy. I can use it anywhere that I want and practice my songs even when I’m outside.

I realise that future interactive media also helps to be convenient, efficient and provides faster speed service. But I hope that this does not cause us to be even more impatient in the future.

Interactive Scape – The table allows you to move graphic objects over the table screen with your hands and it can transfer data to and from cell phones via Bluetooth by placing your phone on the edges of the table which integrate Bluetooth compatible hardware.

I find that this is cool if you want to show a group of people some of the graphics or video from the phone and you can transfer it to your friends. You don’t have to look at the files from a small screen.

Canova Dual Screen Laptop – It is a two screens laptop. A multi sensitive touch screen that can handle your daily computing tasks and you can read articles on the laptop like reading newspaper.

An interesting design that is different from when reading from a normal laptop. It is something refreshing. This design is also like having two ipad put together.

Vaio Zoom – features a holographic glass screen that goes transparent and a keyboard that turns opaque when turned off.

It does not have any useful interaction but if it is sold in Singapore, I would want to have it as the design makes me feel that using laptop is fun.

Compenion concept laptop – A sliding screen laptop

I like this concept as the screen and the keyboard is all flat down on the table. It is useful if you are using laptop to teach people or if you are doing group works.

XO laptop – it is used in the most remote, poor and rural communities with the lowest power and cost in the industry. It is a child-centric laptop that is in low-cost, low-power computing.

I believe that everyone will have a feel of using laptop in the future.

Kindle DX – wireless reading device that allows customers to download books, blogs, magazines and newspapers to a crisp, high-resolution electronic paper display that looks and reads like real paper. Students can review class lessons, parents can see what children have studied in class, and businesses can review presentations and brainstorming sessions on their Kindle. It is not only convenient, it is also a paperless, environmentally friendly alternative to taking conventional notes.

I really like this concept that makes something boring interesting. It is also efficient as it does not involve one person usage but it affects people around them.

I realised that future interactive media involves lots of touch screen and also sensitivity in the media. It also design it to become more fashionable.

Conclusion from task analysis with my group member after looking through each of our own task:

- They will tend to do things which they are attached emotionally to first. (E.g. Feed fishes, Concern about well-being of children)

- They will do their own things first then take initiative to talk to children.

- Some do not initiative conversation.

Objectives: Encourage breadwinners to spend more time with their children.

We find that children spend lesser time with breadwinner and we want to start bringing them closer first. One of the problem would be the lack of understanding between them.

Target Audience: Children aged 13-21 and Parents

The reason for the target audience is due to the fact that it is the age range whereby children will start to develop their individuality, together with the fact that they wanted to make choices on their own.

The reason for the age range is to address the fact that, if to go without attention, it will further develop into a problem.  It also shows contrast as pertaining to how as age increases, impact caused also increases.

-        25 years old student: “I don’t care for the traditions and won’t be visiting my relatives. I only see them once a year during Chinese New Year — where’s the connection there?”,

“It’s a drag to visit people whom I hardly see in the year. I’d rather spend time with people I’m closer to. Some youngsters are just going visiting to receive the ‘ang pao’,”

(heck-care attitude, prefer to be with friends[“thinkers” of their same age])

-        no respect to the traditions and family

-        blame one another for not understanding their thoughts

-        parents lose influence on their teens and teens value peer opinions above parents influence

-        Married children put less effort and time into the extended family, citing reasons such as being too busy with work, family and children. Yet they are able to spend both time and money on holidays, expensive clothes, restaurants, parties and COEs.

-        pass the responsibility of caring for their parents to their other sibling.

-        deserted and abandoned their parents and will not visit them even in the hospital

-        Misconception toward elderly (eg. Elderly parents are narrow-minded and conservative. They tend to be out of touch with reality and are often biased in their treatment of family members. The parents don’t “understand” them)

-        Do not want to get close with their parents because of the parental authoritative and dictatorial towards their grown-up children, imposing obsolete standards and practices on them or treat them like kids, dominating their choice of career, mate, friends and even clothing)

Is it only restricted to grandparents/parents?

-        It does not only restricted to grandparents or parents. It can fall between their siblings and age gap between the people

Technology? Is it causing problems?

-        Generation gap occurs when a person does not open up and share their life with one another.

-        Not a good idea to force the youngster to communicate with the higher-ups if the senior folks wish to relay their tradition to the next generation, they have to do it by means of influence rather than forceful imposition, with particular caution not to use political power.

What are content of communication?

-        Interaction and communication of the children’s life when they are outside, interest, sharing their thoughts/different point of view

-        Youths themselves, should show the required filial respect to their parents, be understanding and respect some decisions that their parents make for them. Parents should show an attitude of respect and faith in the child. The control they exercise over their child should be done with understanding and sympathy. With this mutual trust in each other, the youth will see themselves the way their parents see them.

-        make an effort to settle their differences and try to accommodate each other’s needs.

-        need to be more patient and understanding with their elderly parents.

-        Adjust with one another

-        understanding the way members of each generation thinks, learns and relates to others.

-        Being aware of generational differences can help you anticipate miscommunications and tailor your message for maximum effect

-        Different past experience, think that the younger generation also experience the similar past experience as them

-        Difference in attitude, motivation and behavior between the old and the young tend to cause conflict in the family, community and at work.

-        Not every member of a particular generation will share everything in common with other members of that generation. However, the vast majority of a generation’s members will possess many of the generation’s overall traits, characteristics, and values, similar viewpoints, outlooks, communication styles, work habits, and expectations.
